The Prestige (2006) bercerita tentang 2 orang magicians-to-be, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) dan Alfred Borden (Christian Bale). Pada awalnya mereka adalah asisten seorang engineer sulap, Cutter (Michael Caine). Karena terjadi suatu kecelakaan yang berujung kematian istri Angier, hubungan antara Angier dan Borden pecah. Angier, tipe pesulap yg lebih mengutamakan showmanship, kembali bergabung dengan Cutter serta Olivia (Scarlett Johansson) dengan nama panggung The Great Danton. Sedangkan Borden, tipe pesulap yang berat kepada tingkat kesempurnaan aksi sulap, memilih bergerak secara independent. Masih dendam atas kecelakaan yang menimpa istrinya, Angier mensabotase pertunjukan Borden, dan begitu pula sebaliknya. Sampai ketika Borden menemukan trik sulap The Transported Man yang membuat Angier iri. Persaingan mereka pun naik ke tingkat yang lebih berbahaya.
Well, I think...- Gw nonton film ini udah 2x, yang pertama mungkin beberapa taun yang lalu. At first, gw sangat suka banget sama film ini. But just 'like' seemed enough. Tapi abis nntn untuk yang ke 2x nya, gw jatuh cinta bgt sama film ini!!! This is what I call a bloody genius movie!!!
- First of all, the story was completely blew me away. The complexity, the suspenses, mysteries, thrills. Every little things seemed perfectly fit. Dengan alur yang sebenarnya maju mundur bener2 gak bikin pusing. Memang dibutuhkan sedikit konsentrasi yang tinggi untuk mengerti cerita film ini. Tapi gak begitu susah kok. And once you've known it, it'll haunt you forever (lebay hahaha)
- One of the most elegant movies I've ever seen. The victorian themes, the sets, costumes, plus the atmosphere. Shizz, how I love darkish tone.
- Hugh Jackman was not a Wolverine. Gw jarang ngeliat film2 nya Hugh Jackman, dan di film2nya dia yg gw tonton akan mengingatkan gw dengan tokoh Wolverine. Tapi disini enggak. Despite the fact that I found Jackman's face was too similar with Joey Tribbiani's from Friends series hahaha Christian Bale was good too! One of his best performances yet (another example would be Bruce Wayne). Sedikit menyesal tidak memasukan Bale dalam kandidat aktor favorit gw. Right now, he's like crawling into top 5 hahahaha
- Michael Caine? Scarlett Johansson? And the rest of the cast? Eventhough not all mind-blowing, but still acted beautifully. Gw tidak menyangka ada David Bowie disini (he played the role of Nikola Tesla).
- Pesan2 yang terkandung dalam film ini serta makna2 yang dipakai dalam film ini sangat mengena banget kayaknya bagi gw. Walaupun misalkan gw salah tangkep hahaha Bodo amat.
- Technically nice. Artistically sweet. Super. Too many things I want to say about those things, but I can't get them out of my head. Hahahaha
- As for the camera, gw suka banget sama gerakannya. Parah, walaupun gerak dan kayak hand-held gitu (sotil) tapi sangat rapi! Gila gila.
- One of the best, most shocking, most brilliant, most unbelievable, most make-your-jaw-drops ending of all time. I won't spoil it, don't worry.
So, the conclusion...Maybe sometimes I might say some movies were "too damn good", "one of the bests", "kick-assin" or some things like that. But for this movie, I was like: speechless. Too many compliments I have in my head. Terlalu banyak aspek2 yang keren2 banget. Gw bisa aja nge-bacot dalam review2 gw sebelumnya kalo film2 tsb bagus banget. Tapi dengan amat jujur nya gw bilang film ini adalah satu dari film terbaik yang pernah gw tonton. When I said 'terbaik' it really2 means it was THE BEST. THE BEST. Gak lebay, gak boong. I've never been so excited like this, since Batman Begins. Sumpah Christopher Nolan (director/writer) ama Jonathan Nolan (writer) maunya apaan??? They're like the better Ethan & Joel Coen for me hahahahaha no offense for Coen's fans. PS: OSCAR sucked. Just 2 nominations???
